At 1948, we’re passionate about helping people develop their communication skills.

In most cases, we work with individuals or teams of people who are accessing training through their employer and have already started their career journey. But what about those who are starting out? What about young people who are trying to get their first foot on the job ladder or competing for a place at university? Good grades are part of the equation, but straight As without the backing of confident communication will only go so far.

Being a confident communicator is a powerful asset for students, both in academic settings and later in their professional and personal lives. Whether it’s an interview, expressing ideas or simply connecting with others, being able to communicate with confidence is a vital life skill. It’s about doing so in a way that commands attention, fosters trust and inspires others, setting them up for success both in further education and in their future careers.

That’s why we’ve created a new foundation level training course, to equip students with the skills they need to stand out from the crowd.

Here is why it is essential learning:

Effective Self-Expression

Confidence helps students speak up and share their thoughts without fear of judgment or rejection. When students communicate confidently, they are more likely to be clear and persuasive, which leads to others understanding them better. This is essential not only in academics but also in day-to-day interactions.

Building Credibility and Trust

When students communicate with confidence, they come across as more credible. Confidence signals that a person believes in what they are saying, which in turn makes others more likely to trust their opinions and follow their lead. This is especially true for leadership roles, presentations and interviews.

Overcoming Communication Barriers

A lack of confidence can create barriers in communication, such as nervousness or self-doubt, which may result in misunderstanding or avoidance of important conversations. Confident communicators are better equipped to handle challenging conversations and to express themselves clearly, even in difficult or high-pressure situations.

Increasing Engagement and Influence

Confident communication tends to capture the attention of others and engages them in the conversation. Students who can express their ideas assertively (but respectfully) are more likely to have greater impact and influence persuading their audience, whether it’s in discussions, debates, or group projects.

Enhancing Social Interactions

Confidence plays a major role in social interactions. Students who are confident communicators are better able to form connections, network and engage in meaningful conversations. This helps them build a strong support system, both personally and professionally, and can lead to new opportunities.

Improving Public Speaking and Presentations

Confident communicators excel in public speaking. Whether it’s a classroom presentation or a formal speech, confidence enables students to speak with authority, maintain composure, and present their ideas in a clear and engaging way. This skill is critical in both educational and career contexts.

Inspiring Others

Confident communicators inspire others to speak up, share their opinions, and contribute to discussions. Students who communicate confidently are often seen as leaders or role models, helping create an environment where others feel comfortable expressing themselves.

Effective Conflict Resolution

Confident communicators are better at handling disagreements and resolving conflicts. They can express their points of view respectfully, listen actively, and work toward solutions without backing down out of fear or insecurity. This is key in both academic group work and interpersonal relationships.
