Rather than relying on traditional classroom teaching or slides full of theory, experiential learning is rooted in the simple idea that people learn best through experience. It turns knowledge into action.
When participants actively take part — whether that’s stepping into scenarios, problem-solving, experimenting with new approaches, or reflecting on what works — the learning sticks. At 1948, we draw on techniques used by professional actors to create learning environments where people can safely explore real workplace challenges, from managing conflict to giving feedback or leading under pressure.
Instead of changing simply what they know, it changes how they show up.
One of our main approaches to experiential learning is Forum Theatre, where professional actors perform real-life scenarios, such as a tricky conversation or recurring miscommunication. The audience observes, reflects, and then reshapes the action into something more constructive. They can pause the scene, question the characters, suggest new approaches, and redirect them.
It’s immersive and energising because participants actively challenge behaviours and test new approaches in real time. Storytelling sits at the heart of our approach, because when people experience an idea through narrative — when they feel its impact rather than just hear about it — they remember it long after the training is over. Our sessions are designed to create those “aha” moments that linger, sparking real conversations and behaviour shifts back in the workplace.
But experiential learning isn’t just about individual development — it drives systemic change. By transforming how people think, speak, and listen, it reshapes the culture of a business from the inside out.
And crucially, it’s enjoyable. At 1948, we believe learning should feel alive, not like a compliance exercise. It should be an experience that builds the confidence to handle real-world challenges.
Ultimately, experiential learning turns training into transformation. It moves beyond information-sharing and focuses on behaviour change — creating more capable, confident, and connected people at every level of your organisation.
